CA Policy Forum: State of the Economy and Safety Net Tax Policies
With economic uncertainty looming and massive state revenue shortfalls, the California Policy Forum will turn its attention to the importance of tax-based safety net programs in supporting so many California families. While philanthropy and nonprofits tend to focus on health and human services, we can end up neglecting the powerful tax policies that affect poverty profoundly.
Join us as we explore the benefits of critical policies like the Young Child Tax Credit, the Earned Income Tax Credit, and other tax policies that have had incredibly positive results – but are today at risk. Without them, millions of people could return to poverty, food insecurity, and other economically disadvantaged positions.
What role can the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors have in advocating for a more permanent set of tax and other financial policies that will allow for an equitable and economically stable future for Californians?
A partnership between CalNonprofits and Philanthropy California (Northern California Grantmakers, Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties, SoCal Grantmakers) and the League of California Community Foundations, the California Policy Forum not only provides a platform to bring together the voice of nonprofits and philanthropy in our state but amplifies the sector's significance and priorities to policymakers and experts.
